Colt Peacemaker ?

I need a .22 LR cylinder for a Colt Peacemaker(have the .22 Mag)and have found several for a New Frontier .22 LR but nothing for a Peacemaker so my question is: are they the same, can they be interchanged ? Thanks for any shared knowledge !

    only difference between Peacemaker and New Frontier is the sights. with this said all parts may go into place but may not have the exact same timing or head space/cylinder gap. With 22 Long Rifle it will not be as big of an issue as say a 357 Magnum lightweight with +P+ loads . If you have any bulged cases or spits lead then take to gun smith.

    Thanks for replying, the locking notch locations and timing were a concern to me. Do you think I'd be safe in buying one as a replacement ? hate to waste the money !

    No offense! But we have no way of helping you on line. All you can do is hope for the best. If the replacement cylinder you buy times right and locks up OK, your a winner. If not your going to have to take it to a knowledgeable SA gunsmith to get the problems sorted out. An unfired replacement cylinder might or might not have oversize ratchet lugs. While a used cylinder might have ones that are severally worn.

    THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME, and might, or might not need modifications to interchange on your gun. They have to be checked for timing, and end play BEFORE they are fired. This should be done by someone that is competant in what they are doing. They ARE NOT plug-n-play, like most people think.

    The good revolvers that come from the factory, as convertables, do not go the production line, and get packed with one cylinder from this parts bin, and another cylinder fron the other parts bin. They are FITTED as individuals.

    Lastly, some 22LR's operate at near 25,000 PSIG...they are nothing to fool with. Even though they don't have the larger volumes of like the 357 Magnum, or 44 Magnum, they can still be lethal.

    According to the late Don Wilkerson, all cylinders on the Scouts, Peacemakers, and New Frontiers in .22 caliber are interchangeable. The "only" differences will have to do with whether or not they show the caliber markings, have flutes or not, and finish. That said, it's always best to get a gunsmith's opinion as other members have mentioned.
