Remington 600/660/Mohawk
What are the differences between the Remington 600, the 660 and the Mohawk? A few weeks back one of my local gun stores had one in excellent shape in 6mm Remington - was going to buy it, held off & last weekend over the phone told them to set it aside for me. Obviously it's got the dog leg bolt, but it also has no rib, no front sight and no rear sight. There are two screw holes up front, I presume this is a 660 as opposed to a 600 missing its rib?
I've ordered Redfield scope base, it fits all "600 type" models. If a model came without the rib and "shark" front sight I'd presume a ramp type can ge attached to the 2 screw holes present?

The 600 was first and had the short 18 inch barrel with barrel rib.
The 660 had a nice walnut stock with black forend tip and pistol grip cap and a 20 inch barrel. The Mohawk was an economy version with plain hardwood ? stock and also the shorter barrel. I believe the Mohawk and 660 used the same front sight. Don't know about the 600 with the rib as I don't have one of those for comparison. The 6mm is a good caliber in the 660 due to the barrel length, plus the stock is very good looking. The weak spot of all these guns is the plastic trigger guard and floorplate, they always distort in shape over time. However, metal replacements can be found. Congratulations on your purchase. Thanks, I suspect the "odd caliber" is why it's priced low. I like the 6 (reload for it) have an HS stocked VLS and Encore in the caliber so this works well. The trigger guard looks fine for now, but I'll probably get the aftermarket metal. I have an old steel Weaver with a post reticle, should make the thing "period correct".0
