Your revolver is chambered for .38 long colt, if original.
The cases are shorter than .38 special but are the same diameter.
I had one that would chamber .38 special and shot very light loads through it.
Don't know about the grips, mine had funky white plastic after market ones.

Thanks you for your reply. I understand that 38 LC are discontinued so does one have to hunt them down through the internet ie, specialty vendors or private collectors? I didn't pay much for the COlT so it may just go up on the den wall in a shadow box if I can find ammo..

Once again I am grateful for your reply...O.D.

You can buy .38 Long Colt at www.midwayusa.com it's not cheap but definately not discontinued. Ultramax and Black Hills both make light cowboy loads for it.

Midway has the brass $18/100 and Lee makes a carbide set to reload them. http://leeprecision.com/38-shrt-lg-colt-carbi.html
