Win. M70 Classic
I have taken in a rifle on consignment . It's a Win. Model 70 SS with a black synthetic stock ( Duratouch ) . It's chambered in .325 WSM , and is in excellent condition , a few scratches (on stock ) and some light scuffs . Barrel is 24" with a mirror bright bore , muzzle diameter is .595" . There is one like it on the auctionon side , it has the same stock only in Camo ! The owner told me it is one of the last Mod. 70s made in the New Haven plant . It's controled round feed , gun was bought new in 2005 . Is it a Classic ?

Yes, that is the "Model 70 Classic", as the action is the same style as the Pre-64 Model 70's, with the Mauser style claw extractor.
Your customer/rifle's owner, is not lying to you, that was one of the last rifles made in New Haven, as they closed the door's in 2006. That said, I will tell you, it was made under license of Winchester, and made for Winchester, by USRAC(US Repeating Arms Company), as anything was that was made there since about 1880-1981. Basically that statement says it was not made by Winchester, even though it was made in the old Winchester plant. That rifle is most likely in the Super Shadow, or Ultimate Shadow configuration.
By the way...how was your Maple season? Our's here in NY was NOT GOOD.
