IMHO, you would be advised to test fire it before you buy it. The Swift has a rep as a throat/barrel burner. If you find out that the barrel is screwed after you buy it, you won't be happy.

It is probably a good deal. I have one in that caliber made by Ruger and I really like it but it is not that old.

I have a buddy with a factory ruger from that time frame. It is the 3rd most accurate rifle I have ever shot. Tackdriver BBL life can be short, shoot it first if you can.

I agree with the test fire first theory. If those "only 3 boxes" down range, were done all at once, say within 10 minutes, then that barrel will have issues, douglas barrel or not. If it is a good shooter, and most of those with good barrels are, then that is an AWESOME deal. Figure the 10 boxes of ammo are worth $20.00-30.00 each, so that is $300.00 right there.

    Let us know the outcome.

Get it ..The swift has a following,,and at 600,,with ammo,,you can look at it and see but if condition is what stated you can't lose.,hell the gun here alone might bring that.

meeting him monday, no way to test fire, it has no glass presently on it and I dont blame the guy to go through the trouble. I think 550 is going to get it from the feel of the conversations with him, really looking forward to seeing it, will post an update.

Ok, I went to look at the rifle today. It is a 1983 mfg. condition was as advertised and has some slight dings to wood. No exterior wear to bluing, bolt handle or muzzle end. All the checkering was perfect. It truly did not look to be fired much. There was 11 boxes of assorted factory ammo and a box and a half of brass. The guy has another 3-4 boxes of ammo on his farm downstate that will be retrieved this weekend. gave 570 for the whole setup in a nice case. So gun, case, 14 boxes of ammo 1 1/2 boxes of brass. Very happy.

When loaded to 4000fps, sure it does (this is the velocity range of some 40-45gr factory SWift ammo). Keep the loads under 3500fps & there's no reason it won't have a normal barrel life.
