Serialization books

I remember seeing some smaller sized books that have serial numbers by years for guns. There were books for different firearm manufacturers. Approximate size was 5" x 7" or so. I am looking for some of them. Anyone remember who prints them? Thanks.

    Since I got my C&R license I would like a source for whatever might come along. What would you recomend?

    For the Winchester stuff, I would ask Bert for the information, to purchase a signed copy of his books. He has authored, and co-authored a few now. They specialize on Winchester's. For serialization of the Winchester 1894/94, there is a sticky at the top section of the "EXPERTS" forum, which has a LOT of information in. Although it was done by Bert, it is not like an Autographed book of his would be. BTW...there is also a sticky there, with links to other serialization referreences for other manufacturer's.

    I have to say again, those are three beautiful High Walls you have in your signature. I think you should show off a little, and list what they are, underneath each rifle. If I am not mistaken, the one is a one of a kind?

    I agree with you 100% on Bert for a Winchester reference, but sometimes Bert is not always available since I don't have him on speed dial[:D] I was also thinking of some references for other manufacturers as well.

    Todd,

    Very soon the 3rd Edition to "The RED BOOK of WINCHESTER Values" will be available (co-authored by yours truly). Chapter 8 in that book is the only published source of accurate Winchester year ending serial numbers. I am diligently working on a separate (new) serialization book that will provide Winchester collectors with an accurate source for determining the date of manufacture to the month & year.

    None of those rifles are a true "one-of-a-kind", but two of them are close.

    The top rifle is a November 1897 vintage high-wall in 50-95 WCF (Express). It was ordered and shipped to Australia for James Rosier (a firearms importer). It was one of four identical rifles shipped on the same order number. In doing some research, I discovered those four rifles were ordered by Australian sheep ranchers specifically to hunt Aborigines who were killing their herds for food. I rescued the rifle back in May of 2006 when I purchased it from a well known Australian firearms auction house.

    The middle rifle is a 1914 vintage high-wall in 405 WCF. It was originally shipped to England, and it has British proof marks on it. Fewer than (100) Model 1885 high-walls were made in this caliber, and just (42) of them are in the letterable range. This is one of my favorite "shooter" rifles, and I intend to take an Elk with it someday.

    The bottom rifle is a Special Sporting Rifle in 40-90 Ballard. My survey of the Model 1885 calibers revealed that it is (1) of just (120) made in that cartridge. Of the (120), just (15) of them were "deluxe" rifles, with fancy pistol grip checkered stocks (3X).

    The green stripe books by Firing Pin Enterprises may be OK for some makes but in my area of research, High Standard, the green stripe book is the worst collection of data on any make gun I have come across.

    same for Colt, i have the Colt book here in front of me and it has very little info on the guns i own......, JUNK !!!!
