Colt navy 1911

I just purchased an early colt 1911 and looked up the serial number and it is a navy frame serial number 39xxx. Where can I find a 1911 early navy frame.

I have an early colt, 39,xxx , serial number that should have a navy slide on it. It has a Army slide and was looking for any information on where iI could possibly find one.

    Maybe it's the Vicodin I'm taking, but I don't get the question; You bought the gun, and you're looking for the gun?
    Is this , like, If I go back in time and kill my great grandfather, would I exist?

    EDIT: Well, his slide might match, if it's been refinished. But, sadly, the OP has chosen not to post photos or respond to our questions, so maybe he has decided not to pursue his quest.

    IMHO, cbeck50is looking for a Navy marked slide to go with his frame thats in the pre World War I "navy" range. Gone to be tough to find and cost him buku bucks, for a original one.

    There are TWO different types of Navy Pistols. One has a slide that is marked Navy as the picture That Rufe Snow has on his post However the later pistols that were shipped to the Navy and were Navy issue had model of 1911 ARMY markings. What serial number range does yours have. [?]

    There were only a total of 15,037 pistols made with the slide marked U.S.NAVY the last group shipped on March 5,1915 to the Brooklyn Navy Yard these were serial number 109501-110000 after that date all Pistols were marked U.S. ARMY even those sent to the NAVY. because of the small number of navy marked slides It would be very hard to find one to match your frame and even then the % of original finish or refinish would likely not match.

    EDIThello Bert H Nice pistol when I get home I will look your serial # up and see if I have any information on when shipped I also have some records on what ship some were assigned to. For all of these marked pistols to be shipped on or before 1915 that makes every one at least 98 years old I hope I look that good at 98 LOL

    EDIT II sorry Bert the records I was thinking about is in a different serial number range . These records were actually for 1537 pistols but serial number range range is 96001-97537 three hundred were issued to the battleships Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. with the interest in military weapons it is a shame that collectors don't have military records that would go down to at least Company level. I know when I was issued a rifle my company keep record and I had to account for this serial number weapon when I left Vietnam. Many collectors today want any kind of record of the life of a fire-arm they own . I recently was able to track down the history of a German made O/U 410/25-20 that was sold in N.Y./N.Y. in 1926 I really did not intend to sell and took to Louisville Ky show to show a friend. As I was setting up my table a stranger looked at the gun. I told him I had Records of buyer and his near life history .After seeing the records This person stated he 'HAD to have this gun . I told him I would sell after I let my friend see it. He Made me an offer I could not believe and let me keep the gun until my friend could see it . His offer was 4 times + what I had paid . The history for $50.00 was the best 50 dollars I ever spent.

    To answer your question, you can:

    1) Go to WANT ADS on ALL FORUMS & post a wanted ad.

    2) Browse Gunbroker auctions on a weekly basis.

    You may be able to find one if you are extremely lucky.
