AR15 22LR Lowers

Excuse me being naive on the subject. I searched in the forum before posting but...

The AR-15 22lr rifles like the Umarex Colt or S&W that you can pick up for $500 or so can you use that lower with a regular 223 upper?

  Nope, the lower's to them are Junk. There is one that you can though, and it is distributed by ATI. I think it is a Chiappa. You can also get a dedicated 22LR upper from them for your current AR-15.

  Not to get off subject, but the NASCAR's only look like a car from your dealer at a distance. Up close, they are all pretty much the same car. None have engines, which come STOCK in a car you can buy from your dealer, and they all have the same bodies, just with different decals.

  That is a bummer - What is the cost difference in manufacturing the real lowers vs. the crappy 22lr lowers? Can't be much right? I imagine like in my case, they would sell a lot more of them if they were more friendly... Not quite sure on their theory behind it all.

  The ".22 cal AR-type rifles" are NOT true AR-type rifles, they just superficially resemble them. They are completely different rifles, made with different designs, materials, & functioning. It's similar to a NASCAR car, which just looks like the car you bought at the dealer.
  
  If you already own a real AR-type rifle, you can buy a conversion kit (such as that made by CMMG) that will allow you to shoot .22's.

  The worse thing about the Colt lower is the trigger. They over enginered it with three times the parts needed.
  The S&W will take most AR triggers.
  I don't agree with tsr of all being junk, except the Cheepa. I haven't looked at anything from them worth shooting.

  get a real lower and put a dedicated upper on it thats what i did

  You can buy "real lowers" for about $80.00 nowadays, less on sale. I bought a stripped lower, built it with the odds & ends I like and attached a CMMG 22 lr upper. Fiddled with the CMMG a bit so it would look exactly like a centerfire upper (removed plastic bolt assist & 1/2 type ejection port cover, added fake gas tube and pin, etc)total cost was probably about $525.00.
