Beretta Recoil Springs

I was looking at Wolff springs the other day for my 96FS. The standard weight is 13 lbs. They had spring weights from 9 to 20 lbs. Can someone tell me what the advantages would be to either go under 13 lbs or increase it?

  Many in law enforcement use mainsprings that are 1 or 2 pounds heavier than standard to ensure stripping of the next round from the magazine during social interactions. One thing to be SURE of is to use the heavier than standard firing pin spring that Wolff includes with their heavier mainsprings. This prevents slam fires in pistols with no passive firing pin safety - I learned the hard way when a .38 Super dumped five rounds in a burst.

  I usually go heavier on recoil springs and always from Wolff. The lady taking the order is very kind also I don't know any other spring companies. Couple of reasons why I go heavier on recoil. First one is it keeps the slide closed a little longer. Second is it makes it easier on the slide and frame.
  
  Now the question is "Standard" or "Variable" recoil springs.
  
  Also the lighter springs are for target or under loads. For these you'll have to test to find the right combo. Meaning you migh as well buy the Recoil Caliberation Pack.

  I suggest that whatever you do, make SURE you shoot at least 150-200 of your regular defensive rounds through it after you change the springs to make sure it's reliable.
  
  Wolff makes good stuff. Pricy at times, but they're products are worth it when it's time to replace things.
