Hodgdon's New CFE223 powder

Hello Everyone,

Hope all is well and good, here in Gunbroker.com land this morning.

I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to play with the new Hodgdon CFE 223 powder yet? Is it temperature sensative? Load consistancy? Standard deviation?

It will be of great interrest, to see if this powder lives up to the claims. If it does, it will be one hot seller!

I did, in fact read that article. That is why I am asking if there would be anyone here, with hands on experience. It is a fairly new(January 2012) powder.

EDIT 2-SHOOTING UPDATE!!!

Well, I have run the CFE 223 in some loads with the Hornady 68 grain BTHPM, 223 Remington, in a couple different AR-15's. One with a 1 in 7 twist, and a RRA 16" Varmint upper, with a 1 in 8 twist. I am pleased to say, that this powder is awesome, and works as stated or better. It is much easier cleaning a little powder fouling, with a trace of copper, than a heavy copper and powder fouled barrel.

I am currently working up some loads for my GAP-10, in 308 Win., using some Hornady 168 A-Max, and 175 grain SMK's. Also loading some 243 Win., with the Barnes 85 grain TTSX, and some 260 Remington, with the 120 grain Nosler BT. Will give an update as to the results, at a later date.

    Quite a writeup on this new powder in the Hodgdon 2012 annual edition. According to Bryce Towsley, it's the answer to all your fouling problems.

    Read a write-up on it. They shot some different powder and bore scoped the barrel after each. The CFE223 shot barrel showed very clean. I don't remember which magazine it was in.

    I wouldn't pay any attention to any of the hype in the gun rags, there just shills for the manufacturers. Chances are there was a ad for the powder maker in the same mag.

    The only way your really going to scope it out is to buy a container of the powder and shoot it in your rifle with your loads. See how it compares with the powder you have been using. Since their so many variables in handloading, the only way your really going to know is with personal hands-on experience.

    I can't find any. Even the large stores, Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse in Reno, Nv. have not received any of it. What a crock[:(!]

    Get the April 2012 Guns & Ammo and go to page 68. That is the article I saw. It has bore scope pictures of the barrels after using different powders and CFE223.
    Don't pay attention what snow says about the "hype in gun rags" as he doesn't know what he is talking about. I know some "gun rag" writers and what they go through to write these articles.

    from the article, it was developed, or a powder like it, with the military for their use to lessen cleaning issues in combat. I suppose supplies are thus given more priority to the military. And there is always ramp up production problems as well as demand for a new miracle product.
