Fixed barrel vs floating barrel
I have two 380 apc semi autos with a fixed barrel to the frame. One Walther ppk and a Stering. Both very accurate from a sandbag. My other 380s are the browning design, which I call floating. Any opinions on which design is the most accurate?

Fixed barrels in my experience are more accurate if the rear sight is also fixed with respect to the front sight or as in the case of the Luger, essentially fixed due to tight manufacturing tolerences.
The accuracy differences may be academic at handgun distances.
The Walther PP in 22 with its' fixed barrel is very accurate.
The Ruger 22 autos set the target 22 pistol industry on its' ear with their fixed barrel and fixed rear sight.0 -

First of all, .380s in general aren't known for accuracy, and as compact close-range defense guns, pinpoint accuracy is mostly irrelevant.
Many of the small .380s can get away with a fixed barrel because that cartridge is low enough power to run a simple blowback-design small pistol safely.
But in terms of fixed barrel vs browning design, Either design *CAN* be very accurate; the limiting factor here is execution of the design (ie tolerances, barrel quality, etc) and ammo quality.
In PRACTICE, the most accurate centerfire shooting on the planet is done with accurized browning design pistols like the 1911 and SIG P210.
The most accurate rimfire shooting is done with fixed barrel type designs.0 -
Shooting from a rest is Okay, I guess. It will reveal the most accurate pistol.
However, you have to pick the darn thing up to shoot it! That throws the 'fixed rest' scenario out the window.
It's the grip design that your hand will like. Find out which one your hand likes most, and go from there!

Hi Standard made a version of the HD model in 380. I'd bet that pistol was accurate.
A Polio victim friend of mine, who braced himself with conventional crutches, put all shots from a Primo prewar Mauser Luger of mine into a quarter size group at a 50 ft range.
The only ammo available at the time was WW2 Canadian and British military.
I assume a machine rest might have done better.
That Luger had a blued and burnished bore and showed no signs of use
when I got it along with a 1911 and other goodies in a trade for a PPSH41 I sent home.0
