Plug Clawson's name and title of the book(s)your trying to obtain, to the Book Finder site, at this link. http://www.bookfinder.com/ If the books are still out of print, be prepared for sticker shock.

You probably don't need the original "big book". Your best bet is the 2003 Third Edition "little book", which is only 146 pages.

Hello Beltfed. Charles Clawson has published at least 3 different books Maybe more the Military BIG book was only published one time the Civilian model book has I think two different publish dates and then the collector guide. is as far as I know still in print. The Government model by William H.D. Goddard is also a very good book . I for one bought these books to use and have most likely used them Thousands of time I don't write in them and try to at least have fairly clean hands when I use them. The dust jackets took a beating And I still have them.with that said a mint with dust jacket Big Book could go for north of $1000.00 The collector guide $75.00 + or - . The civilian model book with dust jacket $400.00 + or -. There is also a good book on Colt 38 Super by Douglas G. Sheldon that has a wealth of information on Colt EPHRMEA like date changes on type and color of boxes ETC that also translate to the civilian models . Double click on my user name and send me a personal email with your email address if you would like to see some pictures I have a few mostly Bulls-Eye pistols maade by old master pistol smiths but also some collector grade guns. Cheers Karl "PRAISE THE HARD - BALL GUN"

If you are gonna collect military 1911/1911a1's Clawsons big book could save you from making thousands in mistakes.

The 'third edition' will help you get your feet wet but the big book is the bible.

I just this year picked up my own signed copy of his big book and felt I stole it at $550.00. I had budgeted $800.00 and stumbled across a copy at my clubs local show. Guy I bought it from said $550.00 is what he paid for it 6 or so years previous, he was only selling because he fell into a nicer one at a book auction for $35.00.
