Stuck rear site- Win Model 94

I've installed a new Williams 5D peep site on my wife's 30/30 and I'm trying to remove the V site on the barrel.
I've done this many times on my other rifles, but this one's really stuck!

I have already bent my brass punch beyond repair and I have drizzled on some Kroil for 2 days and still a no go.

Should I apply some heat via mini-torch?

I would like to avoid a 'smith for the time being.

Any suggestions?

  A bigger brass punch(the case head of an empty 30-06 or 300 Win Mag works well too, in a bind), and a bigger hammer. Make sure you are going from LEFT to RIGHT, as you are looking down the rifle like you are shooting it. Make sure the barrel is resting solidly between two wooden blocks, on either side of the sight. You most likely will have to remove the forearm.

  Hmmmm....perhaps someone before you applies some adheasive to it, to keep it from moving. You might need to try a little fire wrench if you have one, or a burns-o-matic propane torch. Not a lot of heat, just a little.

  If a bigger punch and hammer doesn't work then I'm thinking it was "fixed" by more than the friction of a dovetail. Heat might be the answer. I would heat a chunk of steel then place it on the site rather than flame in contact with the bbl. A piece of dry ice on the site after the area is warmed with a heat gun would be worth a try too.
  
  edit It sure sounds like it was bonded on. Flame on the site would be my next try. Depending on collector value you might consider using a dremel tools with a cutting disk to remove the part(s) of the site outside the dovetail thus converting it to a slot filling blank.
  
  edit2 There are ways to affix sites equivalent to welding. Good job going slow.

  I tried the first suggestion and removed forearm, bigger punch, and blocked up in a vise.
  .
  Still no go and I'm really hitting it.

  Your're going to replace it with a dovetail filler, yes? If all else fails maybe (carefully) saw the present base in two horizontally across the barrel top?
  
  Heat would be my 1st choice though.

  I always install the fillers.
  Not sure I want to start cutting though.
  
  I'm still giving the Kroil time to work and tapping on it every few hours.
  This one is really stuck, since 1953![;)]

  as long as your drifting the right way, then put some heat on it. thats what a smith will do. im one!

  Try knocking it the other way as some sight dovetails are angled so the sight stays tight.
