Winchester M1892 lever rifle
I have a Winchester Model 1892 lever rifle. Serial #460347. Manuf. 1908. The arm is in excellent cond. with all it's parts etc. I was wondering if this rifle has a firing pin spring. The firing pin floats back and forth within the bolt assy. If a cartridge were loaded {25-20} at battery of course it would not float. This leads me to believe that a spring is not necessary and was never used anyway. I can't find one in an exploded diagram anywhere. Anybody. Thanks in advance guys. LS[:)]

The Rossi 92 is a copy of the Winchester 92:

The Rossi is not an exact copy as it shows a return spring on the firing pin and the 1892 Winchester does not have such a spring. 0 -

I believe that there should be NO spring on that firing pin. The top of the lever is a safety, it is grooved, it straddles the firing pin, and it allows the firing pin to move freely with the breechbolt fully open & fully closed. The lever DOES NOT allow the firing pin to contact the primer of a chambered round, until the lever & breechbolt are fully closed (firing pin is NOT to scale, in this picture):

You guys were a big help. There is in fact no firing pin spring unlike the Rossi. The Rossi's exploded view kinda threw me but no longer. Thanks again! LS[:D] 0 -
I might be a day late and a dollar short, but I did find a schematic for your 1892 on Numrich's site. Hope it helps in the future.
