How accurate are smooth bore shotgun slug barrels? What is their maximum range?

I have a Remington 870 in a .12 gauge and .20 gauge. Do slug barrels have to be made to fit shotguns or can I use any slug barrels on these shotguns? Can shot shells be fired through a slug barrel? 0 -
they do not have to be fit. slug barrels are cylinder bore which means no choke constricion. if the barrel has rifeling the pattern will not be as good at longer ranges with shot rounds. with home defense distances it will not make a difference.early 870 were built on the 12 gage frame and light weight barrels will not fit. the 1100 series is a little different. early guns were built on the 12 gage frame and are called standard. the LW guns had a short tang like the 870 and the LT guns have a long tang so look at the barrel you have and see what it says.before you buy a barrel make sure you know the variation of your gun 0 -
Yep, Sp45 is correct...
Only Rem 870 slug barrels of correct gauge will fit 870 reciever. Shot will fire OK in slug barrels. Patterns will be only effective at short range.0
