M-1865 Spencer carbine SN 902
Gentlemen: I have a Spencer M-1865 Carbine, mfg by Spencer rifle Company #902. I feel with this low number, it must have been issued to the cavalry units serving on the Western frontier.
Are there any records or serial number ranges assigned to various units? It has a script engraved name on the side, very week and worn but looks like "Frank N. Watts" or
N Watts, hard to read from wear and the fancy script. Any help would be greatly appreciated....Carl M.

Try Springfield Research. They have pretty extensive records of US martial arms, including Spencers:
