22 cal. luger
Hi. About two years ago i posted photos and questions about a 22 cal. luger the subject was 22 cal. luger. I have come across some new info. about this pistol and would like to repost the photos and reopen disscusion. Is there a way to find that old post and rpost the photos? Thank you.

Thank you spider and bigbore fan. I will try to get phots up again, reading prior threads will get back up to speed for now. I found a book by Fred Datig 5th printing 1962. The Luger Pistol. I don't know if I can get all this in one thread. This is from Fred's book. "One of the most interesting and unusual Lugers to be examined at any time is the converted (to 22) pistol (shows photos). Were it not for the odd step in the barrel, it might well be taken for nothing more than a common garden variety. The receiver was completly cut into two pieces one and one half inch from the front. The face of the orig. bolt modified as was extractor to accomdate the 22 cartridge, the rather eleborage barrel, was added &orig. ejector removed. With exception of lining mag to accept 22 and adding finlike protrusion to top of holdopen device (the new ejector), all components remained original and unaltered. Even the recoil spring remains. The extreme tip of the firing pin was changed and a minute cut made in coupling link so that the protrusion on the holdopen device would not stop the cross member of that link from riding over holdopens added appendage.... It has been rumored that these conversions (At least 3 of which are known) were produced in Belgium but there no markings or other means of corroboration." There is more but I am going to skip for now). "Unnoticeable except on close scrutiny is the Colt-type floating chamber, an aluminum machining inserted into the chamber from the rear (breechblock) end. Despite the origin, this is a highly interesting, unusual and desriable Luger variation." Fred A Datig(author). Don't know what my question is yet wanted to get some feed back. Sure you can. First you save the picture to a free hosting site, like photobucket.com
Then copy the url (the http: address) of that saved picture and put it in this window between the two annotations that appear when you click on the little yellow square with the two small mountains just above this posting text window. The first annotation is the [ ] box with the letters img inside. The second annotation, that goes after your picture's url address is the same [ ] box but with /img inside.
Give it a try. Pretty simple once you've done it. [:)]0 -
I got your pictures at work . Sadly the close ups are out of focus . . The bore center-line is OFF center. This was done to allow the standard center-fire striker to function on a rimfire case. I have a 22 Cal Rimfire conversion unit for a 1911 that does the same thing . A Unique solution to this inherent problem. Looks like at least two people were thinking the same way. I know Datig pages speak of 22 conversions but did not see closeups in the two pages I saw that had serial numbers that matched serial numbers on your pistol. Did I miss that part[?][?] I really can't explain why the frame was cut . the magazine reminds me of my Day conversion unit for 1911 in the fact that rather then making a complete magazine they may an insert to install in the factory donor magazine. You have an interesting piece but unless you can prove who made it I don't see collector of Luger interest as IMHO it is awell thought out shooter. but not really a conversion unit that you can change back and forth between 9MM and 22 Rim-Fire. 0 -
