US 1841 (Mississippi rifle ) questions ?

    #1, Buy a copy of the latest edition of Flayderman's "Guide to Antique American Firearms".

    #2, Locate a competent and honest antique firearms dealer who can help you obtain a authentic Mississippi. If authentic these rifles are over 150 years old. Without a competent dealer helping you, likely you you would get stuck with a reworked/rebuilt turd, IMHO.

    When these rifles were sold as surplus after the civil war they had little value. Most were reworked into inexpensive hunting arms for the western expansion. Since they have escalated in value over the last 50 years, many have restored for sale at high prices as original Mississippi's.
