K****R pro carry says "steel" listed as spec for slide, if its not Stainless Steel what steel is it?

  If not stainless steel, then it would be carbon steel.

  Just to be a wiseacre, even stainless steels generally still contain carbon. They just also contain a good bit chromium to help reduce corrosion.
  
  Anyway, nmeyers is correct. If the slide isn't stainless then its going to be "ordinary" carbon steel.
  
  Of course there are many different types of carbon steel, with different alloy compositions, and differing levels of heat-treatment for hardness.
  
  For what its worth, Kimber uses MIM (metal injection molding) to make man of the small parts of its guns like the slide stop, hammer, etc. The frames and slides are forged steel.
  
  I don't know which exact alloy Kimber uses for its slides, though I doubt it substantially different than the stuff used by Colt, and the rest of the 1911 makers with forged parts.

  All "steel" used will have a ASTM number There are dozens of grades of stainless steel as well as low carbon and other steels. For example in SS you have 316L one of the best for acids ans caustics not magnetic but very soft. 304 50% stronger than 316 not as corrosion resistant. 416HT twice as strong as 304, is magnetic, will show rust.
  There are dozens more and so it depends what type of service it is used for.
  When you talk about "carbon" steel there are over a hundred types that run the entire spectrum. Some have a tensile strength as low as 35K to as high as 150K and everything in between.
  If you really want to know then ask for the ASTM # (American Society for Testing Materials) for each part because even in a gun there will be several different types. Good luck.

  Oops, I misspoke. ASTM I forgot the "and" that goes between the testing - materials. ASTM international has over 12,000 standards and a complete copy of the standards is 82 volumes and the current cost is $9,800.00. Okay I'll just shut up now.....

  Call Kimber and ask them. It is most likely forged 4140.
