AK drums
Does anyone have info on ChiCom 100rd drums for 7.62x39? The ones for auction don't look any bigger than my 75rd (7in.dia). Is this a wack job?

Any Drums for the AK I should stay away from? How is the Romanian made versions? China?

I got 1 from JG sales a while back, loaded it, and left it like that for about a year. When I pulled it out and made range time for checking it out; it worked perfectly until the 70th round. It had a FTF, I cleared it, and it shot the last 4 rounds like a sewing machine.
I got one from CDNN last month, along with one for the SKS; the SKS model was difficult to install, but ran great.
The Asian military one for the AK was crap. I couldn't get it to feed more than 8 rounds in a row, without having the bolt slam shut on half a cartridge.
Think I'll swap it for a Mini-14 drum today at the gunshow.0 -
i have 2 of the chinese. both work 100% all the time. i also have 4 of the asian drums. they also work 100% of the time. ive owned a few of the top loading russians and romanians, and they work great, except they are a pain to load. the reason most people have problems with the back loading drums is because they load it wrong, such as skipping a round or putting a round where it isnt supposed to go, or over-winding or under-winding them. there really isnt a bad ak drum out there. 0 -

The back loading are very easy loading, and feed good if done right.
Top loading take a long time, like loading a 75 round stick mag.
The Chinese drums are hard to find and expencive. I had two still in the plastic wrap and got $175 for one.0 -
top loaders are a pain to load, and they are constantly under tension. on the other hand, they are 100% sealed up from dirt or opening up by accident. back loaders are real easy to load, and the spring tension can be wound up when needed. the downside is that the cover snaps can be popped open, and there goes all your ammo. either drum will serve just fine for years, it just depends on what you like personally. 0 -
