Wood working/Refinishing AK stocks
I just finished finishing my WASR stock and I like it. Looks good and still not too far from it's un finished state.
Someday I'll want to get another AK for the traditional russian red color.
Take a look at this video with various colors on re finished stocks. Can anyone tell me how they get Commblock red and scarlet Red? I mean you don't find stains off the shelf like that.

I just helped a friend with a stock, he used boiled linseed oil on the composite type stock, it looked really good also. Congratulations on your work 0 -

I've done several AK stock sets in the red color. After stripping the old finish and sanding wood, I use Feibing's red shoe dye (alcohol base) to get the red color. After dye dries, lightly buff with 000 steel wool. The color will get lighter as you buff and when you achieve the shade you want, then seal with Minwax dark walnut stain/sealer. You can leave it that way, or apply Tung oil, etc. for a glossy finish. 0 -
Cloths dyes work well. Just test and let dry, sand and seal some test pieces first. 0 -

He just calls it a mix of Russian and blood red.0 -
