rem. sportsman 1187

Ordered a Remington Sportsman 1187 in 20ga. What came was a barrel marked 870, the paperwork says 1187 20ga 18.5". There is no vented rib. At the rear of the barrel the "tang" is much shorter, maybe 1/2 as long as the barrel that came with the gun. Which is still new in the box. Are these barrels interchangeable?

  Absolutely not. The 1187 has a gas port too, and the 870 does not...an essential part of making the semi auto 1187 go, is the gas port...it needs one.

  Thank you both. I didn't want to attempt putting it on, scratch it and not be able to return it.
  Charliemeyer have I ever asked if you have a Toledo connection?
