Remington 870 J lock safety

Does anyone know what this is. Is it in the same trigger housiing that Remington has used for years or is it something new? Thanks, Steve

  i wouldn't say new. they have been around for awhile. IMOP.... USELESS.
  remington had them on the bolt shroud of the 700's for a awhile as well.

  If you unlock the weapon, Then throw away the key...You never have to worry about unlocking it again...
