New Ruger 50 round .22 rifle
I am probably the last person to find out about this, but just in case anybody out there is interested, Ruger is selling a brand new design .22 LR magazine fed bolt action rifle for a good price. It uses the very same rotary magazines as is used by the Ruger 10/22. That means (I assume) that the 25 round stick magazines made by Ruger will also work. And that means probably my 50 round Mitchell magazine will work as well. I just think that, if you like the idea of a 50 round magazine on a .22 LR bolt action rifle is neat, then this is the rifle for you. Will post a link in a minute if you are interested.

FWIW, if you "need" a super-high capacity bolt action .22, but can't wait until February, the Ruger 77/22 bolt action rifle takes the 10-22 magazines too.
This one is also relatively recent. . .Ruger has been putting them out since 1983 [;)][:p].

In seriousness, the 77/22 is a very nice bolt action rifle, but they cost as much as a good centerfire rifle. New ones run about $650-700 and even used ones typically cost over $500.
I don't know what constitutes "high cap" with respect to bolt action .22s, but I have a 1970s era tubular magazine Remington 582 I really like that I found cheap a few years ago. Tube mags aren't that fast to load, but this one holds 14 rounds (+1, I guess), which IMO is more than you'd ever really need for something like this. Tube mag also runs 22 CBs, longs and shorts 100% if you want to use those.
For whatever reason, I don't think tube-fed mag .22s are all that popular, so sometimes you can find these used at a good price.
Best thing about a tube mag is that you can't lose it! Second best thing is that it doesn't stick out below the bottom of the gun, so you can get low to the ground/bench if you want to.

In terms of supply, I think massive shortages of .22LR ammo are probably making these rifles more available than they otherwise would have been. Why buy a .22 rifle if you can't find any ammo for it?
Yeah, I may buy one as well. Looks like this could make a good youth/training rifle. Good trigger is a big selling point, and fiber optic front sight is a nice plus too. I just wish they had put a "peep" rear instead of the standard rear sight. . .but I guess that's too much to ask for!

Its a somewhat unusual feature, but its not unique. EG, my tube fed Remington 582 releases the bolt by pushing forward on the safety.0 -
tr fox I saw one for sale at a gun shop 2 weeks ago.
tr fox, I know two people that lost their mags out hunting, one was to a Rem 742 the other a Marlin 60. How someone can lose a 18"+/- tube mag hunting is beyond me.0 -

For some reason I kinda like tubular magazines on .22s myself. The first rifle I purchased my grandson was a Marlin stainless, polymer stock .22 bolt action rifle. It should last him several lifetimes and if society ever implodes, he will, as you mentioned, not have to worry about losing or breaking magazines and he will have several choices of various sized cartridges that will fit and function in his rifle.0 -

Ref: the new Ruger bolt, the RAR. While some dealers have told me they're "allocated" and hard to come by, I got mine at Cabelas and by all reports availability has been good; both in .22 L.R. and rimfire magnum. Street price hovers around $260.00 and they are one heck of a fine rifle regardless of price.
I have Cooper and Kimber .22 bolts and I'm not easily impressed, but this little rifle is NEAT!
Great trigger, stock inserts that change length of pull and raised combs for scope use. Snow, ice and cold temperature have limited my initial shooting but accuracy so far has been great with Rem. and Winchester bulk ammo. 5 round, 50 yard groups in the .5 to .6" range.
Can't wait for warmer days!0 -

If you really want to scratch the itch, RimfireCentral has a dedicated thread on the RAR. Seems like they may have had a few Q.C. issues at first, but nothing major and now a thing of the past.
Only change I plan to mine is to install one of the old style flat magazine releases. (I guess the extended latch is great for range work and competition but in the woods it just makes it too easy to drop a mag.) [:D]0 -

Thanks for the tip RCrosby. It might be a good idea for me to wait awhile as to give time for Ruger to get the CC issues resolved. Also give my bank account a chance to recover from my recent firearm purchases.0
