Savage bolt action question

i am new to Savage bolt action center fire rifles. I chose one chambered in 308 wih the accutrigger, accustock and heavy barrel. I used the scope mount and rings that came on the gun which I plan to change to make the position of the scope more adjustable. My question is even though the 308 is a short action the bolt travel seems to be just as long as it would be in a 30-06. Can someone tell me if the amount of bolt travel on Savage's model 110 and 111 is the same regardless of whether it is a short action cartrige or a long action cartridge?

  I just checked a couple of mine. I have a 110 (long action) in 7x57mm and a 14 (short action) in .250 Savage. The 110 has an ejection port of 3 13/16" and a bolt travel of 4 5/8". The 14 ejection port is 3 1/16", bolt travel 3 7/8".
  
  BTW: Savage drops the first "1" for the short action model number. IOW: 111 would be a long action: 11 would be a short action.

  Even in the older long action, short cartridge Savages, the bolt travel was limited by a block on the bolt head and the magazine blocked at the rear. As noted, the current short action(2 digit) actions are somewhat shorter than the long actions(3 digit) by about 3/4".
