Anyone heard of a Mexican Colt SAA in 22wcf
I have what was sold to me as a Mexican Colt 1873 Peacemaker in 32 cal. It turns out to be a 22 WCF cal ( or at least that is the only thing it could be).. This thing has an 8" barrel and no makers or proof marks whatsoever anywhere on it except for a SN infront of the trigger guard. Will add pics soon. or could this be some sort of prototype? Thanks GREAT QUALITY Pictures Some of the machining is sort of CRUDE,
where it does not matter. The design is SIMILAR to a Colt but NOT A CLONE.
VERY VERY interesting. what History if any did you get with that
piece . With 4 digit serial My Opinion also not a prototype. is the 406 stroker in a 63&1/2 fastback [?]0 -
Only info was that it was a Mexican colt Peacemaker 32 cal. but turns out to be what you see(22wcf). I have never heard of any pistols in this cal? The 406 is in a 63 old road race Corvette. 0 -

The 22 Winchester Center Fire cartridge was the Black Powder predecessor of the .22 Hornet, it dates to the 19th Century.
It's overall loaded length is just under 1 5/8 inches.
Although your revolver might have come out of Mexico? I would think if it's completely scratch built. More than likely it comes from either the Philippines, or Dara Pakistan. Both areas have many small shop gunsmiths, who build guns from scratch.
On U Tube their is a couple of fascinating videos, showing how the gunsmiths of Dara build firearms from scratch. I'm not aware of similar videos, showing Philippine scratch built guns. But I have run across photos in books and magazines over the years, showing their work. It's remarkable what quality guns, can come out of a small town back alley machine shop.0 -

As per the quality of Dara built back alley guns. The workmanship is indeed impressive. What is lacking is metal quality. These guns are akin to a Last Ditch Japanese Type 99. Might or might not eventually blow up.0 -
While the SAA was chambered in .22 RF, I am unaware that any were made in .22WCF. As R-S says, .22WCF was the predecessor to the .22 Hornet, & was primarily used in rifles, not handguns.
I was leaning towards a movie prop gun that was converted to a firing gun with a Colt .22 barrel & cylinder from ? With this caliber ammo non-existent in the 3rd world, I can't imagine why a Hindu Kush "gunsmith" would have made it.
406, if you check photos in completed GB auctions, you will see that the SN type font is wrong for a Colt, plus a Colt will have the SN in several other locations.

There are a lot of non-Colt contours and details on that gun.
I think it is a small shop copy from who knows where.
A great novelty item for the Colt or frontier collector but not worth a whole lot of money.0 -
I don't care what it is, it is worth all the $ in the world to me being the only 22 WCF pistol I have ever seen. I will get some 22 hornets to make 100% sure that is the cal. But I am 99.9% sure. Thanks for all the info and Happy Holidays to everyone. 0
