ammo shipping to individual
To ship ammo I have been told I need proof of age like a DL. An individual just won my GB auction and he sent me an email saying his date of birth was 10/20/50 (example) and that was good enough to everyone else should be for me too. I don't think that meets the requirement but want to check with the experts before taking it further.

I always get copy of the DL or pistol license for my records for proof. 0 -
My UPS shipping center (terminal) never asked me for any proof of age for shipping ammo to individuals. 0 -
Get a copy of DL or CCW, I do. 0 -
I used to have a folder full of DL copies, FFL copies, etc.
Never once needed them.
Still get FFL for guns, though.0 -
I assume you mean that UPS or FedEx told you that. Technically, Federal law prohibits sale of ammo to any one under a certain age. Some State laws are probably even more strict. However, it's not UPS or FedEx responsibility to check things like that. It's your responsibility. I am a cartridge collector and have shipped and received ammo hundreds of times. I've never been asked for proof at either end (by UPS or FedEx).
But, if you want to use their services you have to play by their rules or go somewhere else. They are private businesses and we certainly don't want any more federal control than there is now.

Ray is correct; Federal law prohibits transferring ammo to someone under a certain age. Seeing a buyer's DL, or having a copy of the buyer's DL, would certainly prove that you complied with that requirement.
Until passage of GCA68, you could mail order a gun or ammo simply by signing a statement that you were >21 & not a criminal. Not today. You should protect yourself; insist on "no DL, no sale". Not worth taking a chance.

EDIT: A 14 year old boy would not hesitate to sign a statement lying about his age; what would the law do to him? After all, he's just a child. OTOH, if an adult shipped him the ammo he used to shoot up his school....that adult would be in deep trouble. The prison system is full of folks who just didn't think things through.0 -
I ask for a blood sample so I can run DNA testing
You guys are tough, I just ask for a signed statement that there are no laws restricting them from purchasing this ammunition to be sent with payment.0 -
Back when Iconoclast (Teak to you Ray) was active on the forums, his standard requirement for a first shipment (IE: a new customer) was a copy of your DL and a signed statement that you were not prohibited from receiving the ammo 0 -
Better safe than a full time resident at the cross bar hotel.[:)] 0
