Winchester Trench Gun Photo
I found this great vintage photo on the internet. This proud gentleman appears to be holding a brand new Winchester Model 12 trench gun with no doubt a Winchester M1917 bayonet. There is a "44" penciled on the photo. Anyone have any info on this photo?

Nothing: Except that's an Ithaca 37. 0 -
I did a GOOGLE search on the photo, it identifies the shotgun as a Model 37 Ithaca. As far as W W II Trench Guns are concerned, it's way rarer than the Model 12.

Authentic U.S. military Trench Guns, in Very Good or better condition. Have become very expensive collectors items.
Many folks make replicas out of older vintage shotguns. That have been cut down. Replica bayonet lug/protector, sling swivels added and Pakerized. It sure beats springing thousands for a authentic Model 37 Ithaca.0 -

The Model 37 Trench Gun is the rarest of all of the US Trench Shotguns with a little over 1400 being produced. The entire 1420 gun production run took place in late 1942 so if the photo is indeed dated 1944 then the firearm we are looking at is probably in the company headquarters in New York or was a presentation piece of some sort. Find that shotgun today and you have found gold, they are super rare. 0 -
Interestingly, a lot of these trench guns were used on the home front during WWII and many were sent to prisons for the guards so this guy might be associated with a prison somewhere in the US. But these shotguns were deadly when used......and that is some "knife!" 0 -
I think I have seen more fakes than real ones,,,and I would dearly love to have that one in the photo- 0
