scope problem
how to rid my scope of excess paralax,its a weaver 3x9,about 15 years old.

I have had a Redfield 4X on a ruger 10/22 for years and it zeroed perfectly. Out of the blue, it went off zero and I cannot adjust the windage adjustment. Is it typical for a scope to go to pot just that quick? I doubt if it pays to send it in? Can you over adjust the mechanism so it wont come back? New scopes for a .22 are fairly reasonable, but I hate to junk this one unless it is really shot. 0 -
Weaver may adjust it to whatever range you want.
Or, get a scope with AO which allows you to set the parallax for whatever range you are shooting at.0 -
If you can get the objective lense lock ring to loosen and then remove it you can try to turn the objective lens and attempt to eliminate the parallax. Keep in mind that if you use a bar that fits the ring slots that it will have to be relieved in the center to avoid scratching the lens and do not rtemove the lens itself as the gas seal will be totally lost, the nitrogen filling may have been lost already anyway. With the scope securely held, either on the rifle which is held in a vice or held by the mount rings in a vise center your eye in the scope exit pupil and aimed at a distinct piont, ie a target at 100 yards or so. Now move your eye up/down, right/left and observe which way the cross hairs appear to move in relation to your aiming point. if they appear to move in the same direction as your eye movement turn the objective lens in a little at a time and recheck. If the image moves the opposite of your eye movement back the lens out and retry. Generally if parallax can be eliminate at 100 yards+- it will be good at longer ranges and minimal at ranges less tha 25 yards. Keep in mind that if the eye is perfectly centered in the exit pupil no paralalax will be apparent. 0 -
