What kind of ammo?

Your not entirely clear in your post. If the revolver is chambered for the .32 S & W Long. Most of the stuff is underpowered because of so many of the older revolvers like yours, still floating around. With all the ligatious lawyers ready to sue at the drop of a hat. None of the ammo companies are willing to manufacture hot loads that will land them in court.

If the ammo you got is the .32 Smith & Wesson Short and the revolver is chambered for the .32 Smith & Wesson Long? You at least can get some for a heavier bullet and/or higher muzzle velocity.

If a 5-shot, it's a small frame model for the regular (short) .32 S&W cartridge.

A 6-shot .32 is the large frame model, caliber .32 S&W Long, which can also use the short round.

Thanks guys, that is why I come here. Professional information. It turns out to be a 5 shot which I guess means .32 s&w shorts, they sure seem like shorts. Does anyone know where I might find some .32 shorts ammo? Thanks again. bob

This is the only place that has it, from doing a cursory search. The stuff is so uncommon and hard to come by though. I would double check on the phone to make sure they actually have it.

Relatively common ammo at a well stocked LGS.

There IS no .32 S&W Short. There is .32 S&W and .32 S&W long. 32-20 is entirely different. If you reload, you can make inexpensive target loads from a light charge of Bullseye, and a single pellet of 0 Buckshot.

I aquired a Iver Johnson and cycle works .32 S&W made in 1911. I got a box of Remington 32 S&W ammo with it but it doesn't state what grain they are. The bullets are really short and have a lead bullet. What would you recommend I use or buy to use in this pistol? Thanks for all information!! Bob

How short are they? What is the overall dimension?

The shell with bullet measures .908 to .913 in length. The shell measures .335 in width, not measuring the base where the primer is, just the shell.

According to Cartridges of the World: .32 S&W bullet wt. 85 or 98 grains, Case diameter .335, case length .61, o/a cartridge length .92. At that date of manufacture it is almost surely chambered for .32 S&W cartridge. Particularly if it is stamped 32 S&W.
If you shoot this revolver, be observent that the bullet exits the barrel. These old top-breaks often have a too large gap between the cylinder and barrel which allows gas to escape, reducing pressure and can result in the bullet stuck in the barrel.
