.22 Ammo
It has been so long since .22 L.R. ammo has been available i my area, I have had to shoot whatever I could come up with. I have three .22 Pistols,one Ruger MK II, one MK III and a Tanfoglio .22/.45 acp conversion. I have problems with "Jams" in all three. Yes have had the ramps polished, tried different magazines and every other thing my Gunsmiths could think of. They seem to work best with "CCI/Blazer" ammo which apparently has higher velocity/energy and power to operate the slide. It does not do well with Remington, Winchester or Federal standard velocity. Any suggestions on some other available ammo that might be a little "hotter".

I run CCI MiniMags in my MarkII. Anything that isn't bulked pack stands a better chance of functioning correctly. 0 -

I've bought quite a few bricks of SK Magazine since February and a brick or so of other stuff. No problems finding 22 ammo online at reasonable prices. If the new price is $50 per brick, I'll keep buying the match ammo for just not much more.
I know of at least one wholesaler who has the cans of SK Magazine in stock, 2 can limit (1k rounds) just over $100 shipped. This is lot overruns of SK/Wolf/Lapua ammo - good stuff.0 -
Yes, I have no problems getting SK Standard Plus to use in my Winchester model 75.

Same here about CCI mini mags and it's hard to find right now.
My pistols will jam when using the others.0 -
for auto pistols try Federal "auto match", it works in all of mine 0 -
I am still shooting 22s from a case buy I made a couple of years ago. Guy convinced me to buy the case at 8.99 a brick. I feel like I stole it now. 0 -
I went to the Midway website and they said that they had some CCI .22 L.R.ammo coming in, and if I registered, they would contact me by e-mail when it came in. BIG MISTAKE. I have recieved eight sales notifications in the last five days. I am afraid to be taken off their mailing list because I then will not be notified about the incoming ammo. 0 -

This is kind of a late response, but my Tanfoglio .22 conversion wouldn't run right until it was cleaned out, lubed, then broken in with a few hundred rounds of ammo. Cleanliness and lube both matter. . .the gun starts to jam more frequently when it gets dirty and/or runs "dry". In general .22 guns run "dirty" and a good clean and lube never hurts.
On which type of ammo to use, unfortunately, most of us are in a situation of fire whatever we can get our hands on. Its actually to the point where it may be easier/cheaper/more practical to fire available .22 out of revolvers and manual repeater guns than non-available (or astronomically expensive) unavailable .22 out of semi-autos.
Anyway, echoing what was said above, I've found that 40 grain solid bullet ammo runs most guns reliably. If you can find 40 grain high velocity, that's probably best, but in my experience, standard velocity 40 grain round nose ammo still works better than high velocity lighter weight ammo.
In terms of particular brands, CCI mini-mags are many people's "go to" ammo for reliability. I've actually found the CCI standard 40 grain ammo to cycle semi-autos pretty well, and that may be a bit cheaper and/or easier to find. Federal automatch works well, but I don't think I've seen a box of it on a shelf in more than two years at this point.
Least reliable stuff is that cheap promotional "milk carton"/"bulk pack". The hollowpoint light weight bullets choke some guns, and in general loose rounds rattling around in a box/bucket aren't good for consistency, accuracy, or reliability.0 -
Thanks beantownshoota, the conversion Tanfoglio .22 is the very one that I want to run good. Blazer is apparently made by C.C.I. and I recently found some, but they did NOT work as well for me. I have some R.N. C.C.I. Mini-Mags coming, and I hope they work better. I definately am keeping it lubed 0
