Don't forget that there are other makers of 10/22 receivers, including a few that sell 80% receivers you can finish making (legally) at home.
While none of the other manufacturers have every made even a small fraction of the zillions Ruger has turned out, the "true" number [of 10/22s] is still somewhat greater than what Ruger says.

Without getting into a semantic argument about what constitutes either a "10-22" or a "Ruger 10-22" (eg brand names are often used colloquially to refer to generic knockoffs) or trying to divine the intent of the original poster in asking the question, the point is that there are a bunch of NON-Ruger 10-22s out there. Ruger or not, if we're talking about how many of these were made/are out there, I think its worth mentioning this.
In terms of others, right now both Jard and Volquartsen put out entire guns. The AMT lightning was a stainless steel 10-22 clone. Armscor out of the Phillipines is putting out a direct 10-22 knockoff it calls the M22, that is supposedly reasonably good. There are a few more smaller/custom shops that also put out entire guns, in different configurations, and as mentioned above, there are at least 4-5 companies who put out just finished or 80% finished receivers in slightly different configurations.
Also, as we know, Ruger itself makes a 10-22 based pistol it calls the "Charger". Internally, this is identical to a 10-22, it just has a shorter barrel and stock to qualify legally as a handgun. Is this a "Ruger 10-22"? Ruger doesn't call it that, but if we're considering total production numbers, I think these should probably also qualify.0 -
