Adding GI Parts to Universal .30 Carbines
I have a couple of Universal .30 Carbines.
I'd like to replace some of Universal "Product Improved" parts with GI surplus parts. This would include a full trigger guard/magwell group with all parts, a slide assembly with GI hold open button, a GI rear sight and the stock assembly with handguard and all metal fittings.
Can I do this?
What parts modifications or specific type of parts selections (Inland, IBM, Standard, etc.) may I have to do to make this work?

If it is a dual spring Universal there are not to many parts that can be replaced. If it is the single spring model of this rifle it should already have mostly GI parts on it. The older single spring will take GI barrel, trigger group, the stock and small parts.

Thanks Emmet as they have all the Universal produced parts, slide without hold open, aluminum trigger housing and funky non-GI stocks I guess I'm S.O.L. on the action parts. Can GI spec stocks be modified to fit the Universal barreled actions without requiring a total re-inlet?

The elephant in the room is the question of, why bother? It would be much more cost and labor efficient to sell the Universal and buy a milsurp M1 carbine intact. That way no modifications will be necessary.[:)] 0 -
And, no one uses the hold open button on a USGI operating slide. Even with the last part revision, the slightest shake will cause it to release.
