Benelli WeatherCoat

Can someone please explain exactly what the Benelli WeatherCoat finish is found on the Legacy 28ga and Ultralight shotguns? I've been told its anything from a laminate stock to a plastic film with wood grain drawn on it applied to very plane walnut. I'd hate to think Benelli has a MSRP over $2000 for a gun with fake wood grain drawn on.
