winchester 61 octagon bbl numbers
I am unable to find the manufacturing numbers of winchester model 61 22 pump in octagon barrel. does anyon have that information. the one i am looking at was made in 1939. thanks

I can't find that information either, all I can find is the total number manufactured, 349.000.

I don't think that anybody knows. The sales records for the model 61 from 32 - WWII are,as far as I know, still missing.
Not all prewar 61's are octagon, or it would be easy. My GUESS is that a few thousand are octagon, the remainder round.
Just my thoughts.
PS - I have an octagon WRF in the 34,000's.0 -
I might be able to give you the best answer based on a survey of the Model 61 rifles that I am working on because I had the same question last January so I decided to try to figure it out myself. To date I have cataloged 1,650 Model 61 rifles. Of that total 138 of them are octagon barreled. That would equate to 8.9 percent of the total production. The highest SN rifle I have encountered is 349288. If we took 8.9 percent of that number it would be 31,086 OB rifles. BUT, since the octagon were only offered from 1932 through 1947 the 138 noted so far accounts for 27.6 percent of that time period. Therefore 27.6 percent of the total 90610 rifles manufactured by the end of 1947 indicates that there are just 25,008 OB rifles in existence. This is most likely a more accurate number to use.

Can I please get the full SN of your rifle so that I might add it into my work? Is the upper tang D&T for two small screws? I need another 1500 or so rifle to have sampled 1 percent of the total number of rifle manufactured.

Can you tell me the SN, Chamber designation (Short, Long Rifle, or WRF), and if the tang is D&T.

I have a Win. 61 in octagon bbl. serial# 1943 . It is chambered in 22 short. It is in very good shape. Shoots great. 0 -
