In the 1894 takedown thread you mentioned iodined threads. Never heard of that, could you please elaborate on that topic? Thanks.

that was insuperably corroded. Don't see much of that anymore, but then again, where can one acquire tincture of iodine ?0 -
You can consider those parts chemically welded. Enlightened folks these days use the heat needed to loosen Loctite. Almost everything needs some form of Loctite or anti-seize compound. 0 -

Thanks for asking that question. I never heard of iodine, either. However, a Dutch friend of mine mentioned that, back home, sea water was used to lock together ferous parts.[;)]
