WAS WINCHESTER 62a EVER FACTORY DRILLED &TAP ON TANG FOR TANG SIGHT

  Yes, but only the pre WW II rifles.

  According to Ned Schwing, the Model 62A rifles made up through serial number 100,000 should be drilled & tapped, then they become increasingly sporadic up to serial number 120,000 (early 1941).
  
  Winchester discontinued drilling & tapping the upper tang for a sight on all of the various models in 1941 or 1942. None of the post WW II production rifles (all models) were drilled & tapped, and they no longer had any tang markings.

  It's close.... I would look inside the screw hole for bluing. No bluing, not original...
