Hi Standard model 'B'
I just acquired one of these and need more info please. It has a long barrel, like 6'' and condition would rate at least vg, maybe fine. Serial no. Is 250xx. Yes 5 digit. It looks like that may translate to a mfg date of 1937 ? Any idea on value?

Quite a few "B" models show up on the auction. They were made from the early 30's to the mid 40's. Most common of the H-S pistols of that era. Check the completed auctions to see if any have sold recently.
EDIT #1,
Nice looking "B". Appears to be original, other than the trigger shoe. Sure looks collector quality to me. "B"'s are still the most common of the early H-S's though. Unless you find a H-S collector who just has to have it? My WAG between $300 & $500.

Nice pistol. From the serial # sticky above http://www.histandard.info/
I have a small book about HS written by a different guy with claimed access to the factory records and people.0 -
So what does your book say? 0 -
Charlie Meyer is probably talking about the Jim Spacek Book or Charlie Petty's book.
There are pretty much four published lists of data vs. Serial number - Charlie Petty, Tom Dance, Jim Spacek, and mine.
Only Charlie's and mine offer the numbers for the early guns.
Interestingly, even though all of these tables are based on the same factory records, they all disagree to some degree.
Charts are pretty good guides about 95-98 % of the time. Since the guns did not finish in assembly or get pulled from inventory in any particular order, there are a small percentage of guns that differ from the tables. Most common differences are guns from near the end of one year and carried over in inventory to the next year.
In this case it probably shipped in July 1937 or a little later.
The best method is to provide the complete serial number so it can be looked up in the factory records.0 -
