Colt Police Positive question

I was looking at a 1934 vintage Police Positive pistol last night (.38 S&W) and notice what looks like "C P P" stamped on the lower part of the left side of the frame. Any idea of what this is?

  In the "Book of Colt Firearms" a number of contract Colt handguns,that were actually marked by Colt. Are discussed, and pictured.
  
  Many others were marked on a local level, by department armourers or contract gunsmiths.
  
  Post quality photos of the marking. Might help to identify department and location.

  Could it be "C P D"? It may indicate a police issue revolver - C??? Police Dept.
