WWII relics
Anyone knowledgeable about WW II? I have found a couple of items of my Dad's while cleaning out an old barn. most I know what they are, but one is an attachment for what I believe to be for an M1 to launch grenades. Just interested in what it worth or is it collectable? Thanks. Doc.

I will put a photo up. Wasn't even thinking. Besides what I have, I may not want to put a photo up....lol. It doesn't look like the one posted though. It holds an actual pine apple grenade. Has a basket like forks...I will work on posting up a photo this weekend. Thanks a lot gentlemen. 0 -
Sounds like you have one of the M1 Series Grenade Projection Adaptors, which holds a hand grenade but...Guess what, slips onto the Grenade Launcher which is attached to the rifle. I swiped this photo from GB member countryfarmer...I hope he does not mind [:I]

How far would it propel the grenade in real action ? I saw a re-enacter fire a few off holding the rifle about a 45 deg. angle and they went probably 50 yds max. I'm curious about the distance they would propel a grenade and if they worked 100% of the time....safely.
With an actual Grenade Launching cartridge: 150-200 yards. There was a little "booster" (called the vitamin pill) which could be inserted which would add another 50 yards. A blank cartridge is used these days for "playing" around and they lack the propellent to launch a grenade any real distance. To actually fire a grenade a special cartridge was needed; the M3 Rifle Grenade Cartridge. This cartridge should not be confused with a blank cartridge as it is much more powerful containing 40 grs of IMR and 5 grs of black powder.0
