what do I have here guys found another box of parts from gun smith clean out hammer is 3 inches high by 1 7/8 wide hex hole for bolt has a capital letter I inside. lock is 4 1/4 inches long 1 1/8 inches wide at biggest part markings are in script capital m small ve captial r le de mutzig also a w inside a circle on lock face inside lock is mve 1849? ic 390 thanks mike

  Mutzig was a French military arsenal, located in eastern France. With a date of 1849, it could be from any number of different percussion military arms. That the French military used during that time frame.
  
  Usually the locks on rifles were, larger than the ones used on handguns. You might be able to narrow it down to a specific type that way.

  It's what is called a "Back Action Lock". They were quite commonly used during the late percussion period on both rifles/muskets and handguns. Here is a photo of one used on a rifle/musket?

  The hammer shown separately may have originally belonged to the lock, but the hammer presently on the lock is from a breech-loading shotgun, probably one of the 1000s of cheap doubles imported from Belgium 1880s to WW-1.

  hi guys I tried to put large hammer on lock no go stud on lock to small an only square but hammer has a hex stud hole
