remington 1100 barrel?

Have been going thru my late Grandfathers stuff and have a Remington 12 gauge vent rib fixed choke mod. 2 3/4 chamber barrel marked WK4. Tried to put it on my newer 1100 but it hangs up on the forend support. Were the early 1100 barrels thicker at the breech as I can finagle the action bar and it fits just fine if you slide the forend support to clear the lower breech end of the barrel and it functions fine.

  The barrel marked WK4 was made in Aug of 1963, production changed post 1977.
