Some years ago there was an article in the American Rifleman or Gun Digest about testing .22 sporter rifles. The Weatherby was the most accurate of all the rifles. Yes, I would free up the barrel channel that is touching the barrel. Then try out different ammo for accuracy. Keep good notes. Glass bedding a .22 rifle has never been noted to improve accuracy, in my experience. Make sure all the screws are tight, the scope is mounted correctly and the screws are tight. Try to shoot from a very stable platform with bags under the forearm and buttstock. Test at 50 yards. Anything under one inch grouping is exceptional for a sporter .22 rifle.

Ammo is key But you can spend big $ and must be aware of the fact that 95% of the time Standard Velocity will beat High velocity Hands down. On top of that each box of ammo will have a lot number. The factory makes a run of ammo and this is one lot the same factory may make
another run next day or next week or next month. this will be ANOTHER
lot number. The only way to really get the best repeatable results is to buy large quanities of one lot number at a time and find which lot shoots best. then try to get your supplier to ship you more of this LOT.. Talk to any master class SMALL BORE shooters Or BR50 shooters and they will tell you the same thing.
