Need replacement barril - 20 ga 870
Here is my dilemma. Last year I bought a 20 Rem 870 Wingmaster from the 1960's on GunBroker. It took me a while to figure out that the barrel was bent upwards to the point that the center of the pattern is a good 9" high at 30 yds even when I aim off the top of the front site.
I showed it to a gunsmith who agreed to straighten it at $70.00/hr but he was not sure how long it would take, maybe a couple of hours, so I decided to buy a brand new 20 ga 870 Wingmaster barrel on GunBroker.
Guess what? It did not fit! The ring on the barrel is too small to go around the feeder tube. I guess I have a 20 ga on a 12 ga frame? Is that possible? That's probably why the gun has the heavier weight that I like.
So my question is - do they sell replacement 20 ga barrels that will fit my gun? Or should I just have the gunsmith straighten it? I'd appreciate you guy's advice. Thanks!

That's what you have, a 20 on a 12 frame [;)] They were made on both [^]

Stretch a thread taunt through the bore and look at the distance from thread to tube wall as you rotate the barrel. If it looks straight the easy solution is a taller front sight, perhaps a bead on a short ramp. If it's bent whack it over a padded chair back at the center of the bend with the u up. It may take several whacks, sometimes serious effort is called for, check progress every time - the tube wants to be straight. 0 -

Yep, they sure do. I learned the same thing on this very forum. I have a 20 ga. Wingmaster that I want to put a short barrel on, so it works as a "Housemaster". I don't want to cut the original barrel, so I will find another one to cut, which I have not done yet.
I belive the bigger(12 ga frame)one is called a "standard", and the smaller one is called a "light 20". If you search the forums, you will bring up some past posts on the topic.
EDIT: Just looked on the auction side, and there are some of both on there. They call them "standard weight", and "light weight".0 -
1. Sell incorrect barrel on GB.
2. Purchase correct barrel on GB.
Yes they do show up.
3. Forget beating up your furniture with the bent barrel.
Barrels are straightened but it takes a sharp eye and experience.
Good luck.0
