Load's for copper plated swaged/cast bullets

Friends,

I posted this in the reloading forum also...

I have acquired some Berry copper clad/plated, swaged/cast bullets for the 41 Magnum. They are the 21o grain variety. They say to use low end, to mid range loads for the jacketed bullets.

Questions:

1.) Does any one have any experience with these bullets, in any caliber?

2.) Does anyone have any suggestions for starting loads? I will be using them in a S&W 657, and a Ruger Redhawk.

  The TMJ plating on Berries bullets isn't very thick. In the past when I used them. It was for plinking, using low end loads of fast burning powder. I personally use and load them the same as lubricated lead bullets. Their only advantage is with the plating, they don't lead the barrel. And no messy lube to get on your hands, and reloading equipment.

  TMJ bullets aren't all the same. I have had better luck in the past using Rainier bullets at higher velocities. If you looking for hunting or personal protection loads. You might give the Rainier's a try.

  +1 on that. I have used Berry's Bullets for more than 30 years and find that if you keep the velocities below 1150-1200 fps you will do fine. In my .41s I use 9 grains of Unique and a standard LP primer with the 210 and it is accurate and gives no indicate of stripping the plating off. Leaves the barrel clean as well. In my 8 3/8" M-57 this gives a little over 1000 fps.

  I use the Xtreme Bullets plated handgun bullets a lot. I load them to cast lead specs. Of course, you can load them a bit hotter than plain lead bullets, and still not get leading. After all, that's what they are made for. But, folks have to remember that the VERY thin plating is not the same as jacketing. However, it does an excellent job of eliminating/reducing leading in my handguns. It's good stuff for practice and steel plate/bowling pin competitions. [:)]

  Yes, they are soft and did not shoot worth a dang in my 44 mag even with target loads
  2.) Does anyone have any suggestions for starting loads? I will be using them in a S&W 657, and a Ruger Redhawk.
