22lr lead build-up
bought a used Ruger 10-22 SS.Rifle had rough first owner,broken rear sight, scratches. Could not get the rifle to group,and it sounded loud for a 22lr. Cleaning rod would not go all the through barrel. Pulled brush off Al. cleaning rod and tapped it on through, a "sleave" of lead fell into the action! About the size of a 22lr casing,minus the base,maybe a little thicker walls. I am in the process of cleaning the barrel, removed from the action there are still a couple of "bumps" just forward of the chamber, otherwise looks good. Question is, what would precipitate such a build-up of lead?

Remington, "Thunderbolts" are the most likely culprit. Lately with the nobama ammo panic. They, "TB's" are bout the only .22 ammo around. I've had that same problem with the lead plug, with my .22's repeatedly. Only takes maybe 100/150 rounds of the TB's, to foul a barrel bad. 0 -

but the box says new and improved[:0] 0 -
New and Improved CHIT is still CHIT and still smells as bad. Make sure a bullet has not STUCK in the barrel and caused a Bulge. I would take some JB bore cleaner to your rifle AFTER it is Cleaned The SS may well have a ROUGH bore from the factory. 0 -
If you're not satisfied with the accuracy after cleaning it, 10/22 barrels (take offs) are plentiful and reality inexpensive. Or, you dump more into a heavy, after market, target barrel and stock. 0
