My WAG, 1977. IMHO, gold filling isn't factory.

    EDIT #1,

Of the mods to the factory original GC, that can't be easily reversed. Front sight would be be the only problematical one. Competent pro gunsmith would be needed to get the bubbaed front sight out, without screwing up the original finish.

    bpost,

Dang you! Now you got me itching. I have one just like that made in 1975, that is NIB. I purchased in 1984, when I got my NY state handgun permit, from a local gunshop, that had an ouotrageous price on it, for $695.00. It has remained, well kept, and unfired, with(but not in) the original box, with all the papers.

I have been itching to see if it is as good as I heard, for almost 30 years. I have been offered some outlandish $$ for it too.

Real nice find you have there, and that was an outstanding price too.

    Probably "Bonanza Gold" DIY bling.
I have READ but can not prove that the large roll mark Series 70s, the first half of the run, are a bit better built.
    1977

    Modifications:
    Gold filled markings
    Drop-in beavertail
Front sight cut from post to ramp.
    Pachmayr grip.

Nice pistol. I always thought they needed more work to be all they could be, but a darn nice place to start compared to an Army issue.

Hey Bruce The first New 1911 I ever bought was a series 70 Gold Cup.
I purchased it from dealer for $190.00 still have it. as well as The Box. First time I fired it was indoor 2700 at Quantico. Shot a 2499 not bad for a stock pistol with factory 185 grain wadcutter and my first 2700 after 7 year layoff. from Military team. [^] They are great pistols. Enjoy

YEP, the "gold" filled lettering is Bonanza, I remember the kits also came in silver and possibly copper , I did a lot of this faux gold and silver fill in the 70's 80's for a little touch of distinction on various firearms.
