Shipping Ammunition
I've been reading on a few places that the shipping requirements for ammunition are changing on January 1st 2014. Do you have details on how to ship ammo after December 31st?

What is the best, most cost effective way to ship a small amount (40 rds.) of rifle ammo? I just got the run around at USPS. 0 -
It is all dependant on what state you are shipping from, and to. If you are not registered with the State of NY, after December 31, and agree to keep track of what you sell, and to whom, then you cannot ship to NY.

Shipping rules have changed several times recently, & Nononsense is working on an update to the sticky at the top of this forum.
I wasn't aware of a 2014 change, but I know that the ORM-D wording & emblem have changed this year.
Your only options are still UPS & FedEx.
If you don't have a contract with FedEx, they will ship ammo ONLY if you schedule a pick up (no FedEx Office, no hub).

UPS, FedEx, and USPS are all interstate shippers operating under federal regulations. How can the state of NY impose restrictions on what you can or cannot ship?? Is this some sort of internal agreement between the contract carriers and the state?
The only change that I'm aware of is the new sticker replacing the ORM-D. That has been phased in over the past year and most carriers are already using them.

UPS, FedEx, and USPS are all interstate shippers operating under federal regulations. How can the state of NY impose restrictions on what you can or cannot ship?? Is this some sort of internal agreement between the contract carriers and the state?

Then you need to read the new NY SAFE ACT, imposed by the NY State Governor Cuomo, and his goons. If you sell ammo to ANY one including distributors, and whole salers, you will keep a log of who it is sold to, and how much. It has NOTHING to do with UPS, or Fed-Ex regulations. USPS, will not ship any ammo...those are federal regulations.
Yes, we are trying to get it repealed.

You are exactly correct. However, the threat by Bloomberg, Cuomo, and our state AG, with frivolous law suits abounds. Dealers here are already facing the California syndrome, and have distributors, who will not even ship a cleaning kit to NY. Also, FRIVILOUS law suits, take money to fight. Battling Bloomberg's wallet, can bankrupt a company in a hurry.

MG1890, is correct. As an outdoorsman, if I have a 30-06, and am deer hunting with my pal, who, also has a 30-06, if he runs out of ammo, I cannot legally give him one round, without notifying the state Police, in writing that I am doing so. Hell, we can't even hand down our weapons to our kids. They have to be turned in, if something happens to us.

Remember, you can do anything you want to...however, if it is caught, you will be battling not just NY, but Bloomberg's wallet.

Governor Cuomo and his goons do not have jurisdiction over business people in other states. They may be able to "seize," or otherwise stop, ammunition entering their state, but requiring special record-keeping by people outside their state is crossing some pretty serious Constitutional lines (not that Cuomo and other liberty-hating thugs care about the Constitution).0 -

I don't think so!
My understanding of the SAFE Act is that the collectable cartridge will need to be shipped to an ammo dealer, and a background check performed on the purchaser, similar to an FFL transaction. IT IS NOT an FFL transaction, however, as it is not Federally regulated. The ammo background check system is not yet in place.0
