ID 870 Windmaster?
I have a person asking me for help selling her husbands guns.(Bad Dementia) & I am stumped on this gun DOM from the family info vs. the gun appearance.
This 870 has a white bead on the barrel & a gold mid-rib bead.(what I consider a later mid 80's & on gun.)It doesn't have a high gloss finish on the wood(like my 1978 Wingmaster, more like a low satin or oil rub finish.)
I was told the gun was purchased long before that.
I looked up the Remington Society page & looks like the barrel codes are for the rifles, not shotguns. The gun is Serial # 889641V, any idea on the DOM?

They sold them in the 80's with oil finished stocks. Since the shotgun barrels are easily exchanged, the date on the barrel doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot.
870's are some of the most common shotguns found on the auctions. Explain to the lady how common they are. Give her a heads-up on the fair market value, using completed auctions as a guide. Call it a day,if she isn't happy with that.
When I was in business, this was a common occurrence. Folks would be coming in to sell their relatives guns. With expectations that they would be more valuable, than the crown jewels of England. Explaining the realities of fair market value. Didn't make them happy.0 -
The fact that the serial has no letter prefix tells you it was manufactured prior to 1968.

That could explain the new bead type barrel if he did buy the gun long time ago & buy a newer style barrel.0
