Colt 1873 SAA Front Sights

How were the front sights secured in the Colt 1873 SAA 1st & 2nd generation? Were they soft or hard soldered? I have to remove a broken sight and don't want to use any more heat than absolutely necessary to preserve the blue. Thanks for any help on this!
